Ivy scores Fremont opener
Andy Shammo claims 305 win
Steve Sabo back in winning form

By Brian Liskai

FREMONT, Ohio (April 24, 2004) - John Ivy's confidence was shaken the opening weeks of the racing season, as he crashed two consecutive nights. But, he scored a third place finish on Friday and used that confidenced to storm to the feature win on opening night for Fremont Speedway.

Ivy used a lapped car as a pick to move past Fremont's Mike Linder on the 18th lap of the 30-lap feature and moved through lapped traffic with expertise to pick up his 18th career feature win at "The Track That Action Built" on Crabill Construction Night.

"Boy, we really needed this weekend. After those first couple of nights I was beginning to wonder what was going on," said Ivy, who started the evening by scoring the fast time in qualifying. "I have to thank Sid and Beth Eickelberry for allowing us to race this season."

"Mike was better in turns one and two, but I could catch him in the middle of three and four. I'll tell you, Mike's been knocking on the door and pretty soon he'll kick it in," said Ivy, the 2001 and 2002 Fremont track champion. "I have to thank Guy Meyers and my brother Scott and all the crew...they've really had to work hard the first couple of weeks."

Linder jumped into the lead from his pole starting position and held the lead on several red flag restarts as Alvin Roepke, Kyle Sauder and Caleb Griffith all got upside down (no one was injured). Ivy stayed in his tire tracks until they hit lapped traffic on lap 18, when Ivy executed his
winning move.

At the checkered, it was Ivy, Linder, defending track champion Byron Reed, 13th starting Mark Keegan and David Harrison rounding out the top five.

Milberry's Andy Shammo led all 25 laps of the 305 sprint feature to claim the win aboard his Burkin Custom Trailers car.

"I have to thank Lemar Burkin and his family for giving me everything I need to race and have fun," said Shammo about his eighth career Fremont victory.

Behind Shammo were Scott Miller, 16th starting Brian Smith, Brian Sebetto and 15th starting Paul Weaver.

The 2001 and 2002 Fremont Speedway dirt truck track champion Steve Sabo dueled with Tiffin's Brian Arnold throughout the 15-lap Coors Light Dirt Truck A-Main, and held on for the win, his 18th career victory at the track. Arnold finished second, followed by Bobby Davis, Cory Ward and Brian
Michael.

Fremont Speedway will pick right back up on its 2004 season - the track's 53rd year of racing - on Saturday, May 1, with Willie's Sales and Service/Torro Lawn Mower Night featuring the 410 sprints, 305 sprints and Coors Light Dirt Trucks.
