Haulmark All Star Sprint Ohio Speedweek
Fremont Speedway - Thur. 7/1/04
Blaney Scores Third Speedweek Win

By Scott Hall

FREMONT, OH  - Dale Blaney was on cruise control Thursday night at
Fremont Speedway in the Haulmark All Star sprint car 40 lap Ohio Speedweek
feature. His third win of the week in round five of the 22nd annual
Speedweek was run in front of a standing room only crowd and came in
wire-to-wire fashion.

"We qualified 11th and were lucky enough to start on the front row. I
don't know if we could have won from 11th or not," Blaney stated from
victory lane. "Tom and Fritz Andrews do a great job with the car along with
George Fisher." His winning Maxim featured a Fisher engine under the hood.

Starting from the pole, Blaney rocketed out to an immediate lead,
followed by Bobby Clark and Rob Chaney. Clark and Jeremy Campbell both
disposed of Chaney in the first two laps and began trying to keep Blaney in
sight.

Blaney built a half straightway lead over Clark and Campbell, who were
dueling back and forth for second. Once a pair of yellows on laps eight and
ten were cleaned up, Blaney again set the pace. Kelly Kinser, who started
sixth in the Rotochopper 4K, was now fourth and put Campbell in his sights.

Blaney, once in lapped traffic, kept his advantage over Clark.

After the halfway mark John Ivy was the man on the move as Tuesday's
feature winner began to pass cars. He started 14th and was 19th on lap 23
and seventh by lap 30. Kinser took third from Campbell on lap 35, but he
could not catch Clark for second.

As the laps wound down, Blaney cruised through lapped traffic and Clark
began eating into the leader's advantage, but Blaney still won by half a lap
at the checkered. Kinser rode home third with Campbell holding on for
fourth. Chaney rode home fifth with Ivy moving into sixth at the end. Ninth
starter Tim Hunter came in seventh and Greg Wilson, moving into the Andy
James No. 72 for the A Main, started last and moved steadily through the
pack for eighth. Danny Smith started 23rd and finished ninth ahead of Brock
Mayes.

"Andy Potter has the car real nice right now. He told me to just be
patient and it would come around," hometown driver Clark said after
finishing second. "I wish we had ten more laps because it was really hooking
up at the end. I got tied up behind lapped cars for about five laps and it
really killed me."

"We were tight all race, then it freed up at the end. I'm tired of
looking at that 72 in front of me," Kinser said with a smile after his third
place run. "We may not be running fast here but we put on a good show,
running side by side," he concluded.

The Crown Battery heat fell to Lee Jacobs, the B&B Products heat went to
Andrew Palker, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Craig Mintz and
the TP Wings heat fell to John Ivy. Brandon Martin won the Outerwears
Pre-filters C Main and Tim Hunter won the University of Northwestern Ohio B
Main. Bill Rose captured the Haulmark Dash and Kinser was the Huggins Cams
Fast Time qualifier.

In the 305 sprint feature, Columbus, Ohio's Scott Miller became the first driver to score two feature wins for the season, taking the lead and win on the last lap from Andy Shammo.

Mike Riehl took the early lead in the feature until Shammo snuck by him on lap 13. Shammo built a big lead only to see it wiped out by a pair of cautions. Miller moved up from his seventh starting spot to take second from Riehl with 10 laps to go, and got around Shammo exiting turn two on the last lap, to score his second straight win.

"This car is just going great right now...it's easy to drive. Anyone could win in this thing," said Miller beside his JD Automotive/Gressman Powersports sprinter.

Shammo finished second with Brian Smith third, Dustin Keegan fourth and 16th starting Bryan Scott fifth.
