Chaney wins thrilling Fremont feature
Shammo edges Kraylek for 305 win
Durst scores make-up victory
Dible scores first dirt truck win

By Brian Liskai

FREMONT, Ohio (July 9, 2005) - Rob Chaney relied on his non-wing sprint experience to take him to his third 410 sprint feature win of the year on Beck Oil Night at Fremont Speedway Saturday.

Chaney, of Millersburg, Ohio, passed Mike Linder on lap 18 of the non-stop 30 lap affair and held on to the win over a fast closing John Ivy and a surprising Andrew Palker in his new K-car ride.

"When the track slicks off, the wings are kind of a non-factor in the turns here, so our non-wing racing experience really paid off," said Chaney beside his Stan Courtad Racing sprinter. "I got kind of concerned at the start when Mike passed us on the bottom and took off. But the bottom went away and we got better on the top."

The 305 sprints had a busy night, as the rained out portion of their June 30 show was run along with the regular night's program. In the make-up feature, Bellevue's Jeremy Durst led all 25 laps from his pole position for the win, holding off a hard-charging Scott Kraylek.

"When Josh and Ken Meggitt came to me over the winter and asked me to drive this car I was excited because I knew they would put a good piece under me," said Durst beside his South Ridge Farm Market sprinter.

In the regular portion of the 305 sprint program, Gibsonburg's Roger Shammo took the lead from Kraylek with about seven laps to go and looked like he would cruise to the win. However, as they took the white flag, Shammo got hung up in lapped traffic, allowing Kraylek to close. The two had a drag race down the front stretch for the checked, with Shammo winning by a front wing.

"It's been a long time since we've been on the front stretch. I was concentrating so had on hitting my marks those last few laps...I looked up and I had two lapped cars racing ahead of me. When you're leading you hate to see that because you have to make the decision and that allowed Scott to catch me. I knew it would be a drag race and I was bouncing it off the wall...everything I had I gave it those last few feet," said Shammo beside his Kirwen's Supermarket, Securance Services sprinter.

The Coors Light Dirt Trucks put on a dandy show, as the top six ran side by side the entire 20 lap feature. In the end, Fostoria's Bob Dible held off Jim McGrath and Ron Kepling for his first career feature win.

"Boy the fans got their money's worth on that one. Ron raced me clean and hard and made me earn it," said Dible beside his Bob's Machine Shop truck. "We blew an exhaust gasket early on and this thing was popping and banging, but she hugged the bottom tight and we got'er done."

Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, July 16 for McDonald's Night with the 410 sprints, 305 sprints and Coors Light Dirt Trucks.
