ATTICA, Ohio (Friday, June 9, 2006) - On a night when Attica Raceway Park honored its past champions, it was drivers earning their first career wins that stole the spot light.

Former two-time ARP 305 sprint champion Bryan Scott picked up his first 410 sprint win at "Ohio's Finest Racing," while veteran late model driver Bill Hahn scored his first win in the limited late models and Dan Roepke took his first Attica checkered in the dirt trucks. A.J. Sleek picked up his second career win in the 305 sprints on Legendz Sports Bar & Grill Night.

For Scott, the win was doubly nice, as the Clyde, Ohio driver destroyed a car a few weeks ago at Attica.

"We bought this car off Mark Keegan and the first night out I told the guys this was a better car than the new one...wrecking that car may have been the best thing that happened to us. We won with this one the first night out and now here we are in victory lane again," said Scott beside his Burns Iron & Metal/Fremont Auto Parts sponsored #37z. "Guy Meyers just knows something about setting a car up to run well in the middle of the track...anyone could have driven this thing to victory tonight."

Sleek led all 25 of the caution-free laps of the 305 feature, though lapped traffic would make it close at the end.

"It helps to start up front. Everyone was running the bottom and I couldn't get around the lapped traffic. I just had to be patient," said Sleek beside his Randy Beeker Excavating/Uptown Country Band #15. "We haven't done a lot of racing on Friday night...we're going to have to come back here more often."

Gibsonburg's Bill Hahn has driven late models for nearly 40 years. He was close to picking up a win at ARP a couple of weeks ago, only to bang doors with Mike Bores, having to settle for second.

"This is my son Ken's car. He lets me race it on Fridays and he races it on Saturdays.I knew everyone was going to try the bottom, so I went up top and it stuck," said Hahn beside his Bostwick-Braun Company sponsored #27.

Woodville's Danny Roepke battled with early leader Art Ball, making contact with the veteran exiting turn four before going on to the victory.

"We have a lot of seconds here. I worked on this thing all week...I was determined to get a win here," said Roepke beside his Village Inn/Adler's Transmission sponsored #53.

Attica's Brandon Martin jumped into the early lead at the start of the 30-lap 410 sprint feature, with Andrew Palker, Todd Kane and Scott in tow. By lap 11, Scott had moved up to second when the only yellow would fly for a spinning Mike Burkin. On the restart, Scott looked under Martin exiting turn two, and then drove to the outside to take the lead off turn four.

Scott would then cruise to the win, with Martin hanging on to second, Lee Jacobs would pass Palker late in the race for third, and Greg Wilson rounding out the top five.

In the 305 sprint main, Gibsonburg's Sleek would jump into the lead from his pole starting spot, but he couldn't shake Stuart Brubaker who hounded him until they hit lapped traffic by lap 14 of the 25-lap affair. This allowed Kevin Lee and Paul Weaver to reel the duo in. By lap 18, Sleek held a slight advantage over Brubaker who was feeling the pressure from Lee. A lap later Lee would get by Brubaker for the runner-up position with Weaver moving into third on lap 20.

Sleek still had trouble with lapped traffic, allowing Lee and Weaver to close, but they would run out of laps. At the checkered, it was Sleek, Weaver, Lee, Brubaker and Coty Runion.

In the limited late model feature, Mike Marteney jumped into the early lead, with Chester Fitch and Brandon Perkins in tow. Perkins used the low groove to take the lead on lap 7. Two laps later, Perkins lead over Marteney, Fitch and Hahn who had started eighth. The only caution would fall on lap 10 with the running order, Perkins, Marteney, Fitch, Hahn and Larry Kingseed. When the green replaced the yellow, Marteney would to up top to race door to door with Perkins for the lead, with Hahn moving along side of Fitch for third. Hahn rocketed off the top of turn four to pass both Perkins and Marteney two laps later. He would take the checkered over Perkins, with Tim Sabo picking up third from his 12th starting spot. Ryan Missler would move into fourth from his 10th starting spot at the finish, with Marteney rounding out the top five.

Art Ball would jump into the lead from his pole starting spot at the drop of the green for the 15-lap dirt truck feature, with John Warnick and Roepke in tow. On lap five, Roepke would move around Warnick, setting his sights on Ball. Three laps later, Roepke and Ball would trade paint exiting turn four, with Roepke taking the lead. The contact would cause Ball's left front tire to lose air, but he would hang on to finish third behind Brian Arnold. 

Attica honored its track champions from the last 18 years prior to the racing action. There have been 5 champions in the 410 sprint ranks; 14 in the 305 sprint division; and 9 in the street stocks/limited late models over those 18 years.

Past champions in attendance included 12-time 410 sprint champion Mark Keegan; 2-time 410 sprint champion Byron Reed; John Ivy who won a 410 sprint title along with a 305 sprint championship; Mike Linder who won three championships in the 305 sprint ranks; Bryan Scott, who owns two titles in the 305 sprints; Phil Gressman who has two 305 sprint titles; Joe Keegan who won the track's first 305 sprint title; Scott Miller, the 1991 305 sprint champ; Clay Keim, the 1992 305 sprint champion; Jody Keegan, the 1999 305 sprint champ; Caleb Griffith, the 2003 305 sprint champion; Brian Smith, the 2004 305 sprint champion; Larry Kingseed, who owns four track titles in the limited late models; Butch Schroeder (now a 410 sprint driver) who has three street stock titles; Art Ball with two limited late model championships; John Mayes, the 1998 limited late champ; Mike Marteney, the 2001 limited late champion; and Chester Fitch, the 2004 limited late model champion.

Attica Raceway Park will be back in action Friday, June 16 with East of Chicago Pizza/Strawberry Hill Farm Market Night with the 410 sprints, 305 sprints, limited late models and dirt trucks in action. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing slated to begin at 8 p.m.
