VanWormer puts happy ending on weekend at Fremont

By Brian Liskai

FREMONT, Ohio (Monday, May 29, 2006) - Jeep VanWormer used three cars to
finally get to victory lane with the Sunoco American Late Model Series at
Fremont Speedway Monday.

VanWormer destroyed a car Friday in Michigan, came back with his backup car
Saturday with a third place finish, but put one in the fence Sunday at
Eldora. His family - with the help of driver Ky Harper - put together
another car and he bested a 55-car field on True Value Hardware of Woodville
Night.

In the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints, Paul Weaver led wire to
wire to claim his second feature win of the season.

Fremont's Art Howey Jr. raced side by side with Jim McGrath the entire 20
laps of the Coors Light Dirt Truck feature before taking the checkered flag
for his first career win.

In the ALMS feature, John Bores jumped into the early lead from his pole
starting spot with Rusty Schlenk and VanWormer in tow. Bores would spin in
turn 2 two laps later, giving the lead to VanWormer with Kris Patterson,
Schlenk, Hillard Miller and Ryan Missler in tow.

The leaders hit lapped traffic on lap 11, with VanWormer leading over
Patterson as they battled door to door. The second and final yellow would
fly on lap 16 for debris on the track, giving VanWormer a clear track. He
would cruise to the win - his second career victory at "The Track That
Action Built." Patterson and Schlenk would battle hard for the runner-up
spot the final five laps, with Schlenk taking the position at the checkered,
followed by Patterson, Jerry Bowersox and Wayne Chinn (up from 14th).

"We just had a terrible weekend. Up at I-96, there was a crash in front of
us and I stopped and the other 20 car behind me didn't and I flipped and
tore up the car. We came back with a third the next night, but on Sunday
tried to take down the fence at Eldora. My uncle and crew put this car
together thanks to Ky Harper and here we are," said VanWormer beside the J&G
Industries, TMT Logistics sponsored 34 car.

In the 305 feature, Weaver would jumped into the lead from his outside front
row starting spot and cruise to his 15th career victory at Fremont Speedway.
Saturday night's winner Brad Bowman would finish second, with Scott Kraylek,
Bill Kraylek and Andy Shammo rounding out the top five.

"I had to keep searching around the track for a place I could run," said
Weaver beside his Level Performance, Schiets Motors sponsored sprinter. "It
helps to start up front...it's a good thing I didn't know someone was
closing or I probably would have blown it off the top side of the track."

Art Howey Jr. grew up watching races at Fremont Speedway and he finally put
his name in the record books with his first career win. It wasn't easy, as
he and Jim McGrath battled back and forth the entire way.

"Saturday I lead 17 of the 20 laps and I moved up high and smooth Steve Sabo
drove under me for the win. I decided I wasn't moving off the bottom...a few
times I saw Jim up there and it was tempting to move up, but I didn't and
here we are," said Howey.

Fremont Speedway will be back in action Tuesday, June 6 as Steve Kinser,
Danny Lasoski, Jason Myers, Jason Solwald, Paul McMahon and the rest of the
National Sprint Tour come to town.
