Lakeville Results 7-17-2009

By: Mudclods

Weather was sunny, breezy and cool. People wearing jackets in mid-July before the sun went down just doesn't seem right.

13 Sprints, 18 Late Models, 15 Stocks, 31 Mini Stocks, and 6 Strictly Stocks.

Aaron Shaffer led all 25 laps of the Sprint Car feature for his first career 410 win. Ironically, Shaffer's only other career win was at Lakeville in '03 in a 360. Attica/Fremont regular, Kevin Lee, made his first Lakeville ever start and pressured Shaffer for much of the race. On the 20th lap, Lee tried to get under Shaffer in turn four, but caught a yuke tire and busted his steering as he slid into the infield.

Unoffical finish: 1. Aaron Shaffer (97s)  2. Duffy Smith (38K)  3. Jason Dolick (D12)  4. Aaron Middaugh (91)  5. Bryce Dickson (11D)  6. Broc Martin (83M)  7. Nick Patterson (33)  8. Kevin Lee (3J)[5]  9. Jeremy Aumend (06)  10. Josh Harrison (10)  11. Jamie Miller (4M)  DNS: Kory Crabtree (60), Kirk Jeffries (59J)

Jeffries blew his motor coming out for his heat & Crabtree had his throttle stick lining up for the feature and spun while making contact with Broc Martin.

One of the strangest occurences happened in the second heat race.  Kevin Lee took the checkered flag.  The second place car of Nick Patterson spun and collected the third place car of Duffy Smith.  They announced their rule was they needed 3 cars across the line to finish a race.  So then they gave Duffy Smith his spot back and only charged Patterson with the caution.  I have never seen a checkered flag thrown and the leader clearly pass the flagstand and see the race restarted.

Lots of Lakeville regular Sprints were MIA.

Charlie Duncan led all 25 laps of the Late Model feature for his 4th win of the season. Rick Bond was second. Eric Eicholtz left the track after his heat as his wife gave birth to their child, but came back to the track and got 3rd in the feature.

Had a lengthy delay during the 2nd heat race when they had to transport the driver of the #36 Late Model that apparently broke his arm.
