Hard charge at Fremont heading into Ohio Speedweek

Green Springs, OH: Kevin Lee and the team looked to keep the good luck from last weekend on their side heading into week ten of the FAST schedule. The luck continued at Attica Raceway Park with a good pill draw, and as luck would have it the rains came about as quick as the good draw. Mother nature washed out yet another Attica show. Saturday mother nature tried to drench the track yet again at Fremont Speedway, but she stayed out of the area long enough to get the show in.

At Fremont Speedway on Saturday (6-11-11) the night started off with a sub-par qualifying effort of 13.55 which was 16th quick in the field of 23. Kevin would  however start on the pole of heat number one. Kevin bolted out to a quick lead and led by a straightaway at the checkers of the 8 lapper bringing the BSE Welding, Leafy Oaks Campground # 3J home to the win. The heat race win locked Kevin into the nights A-Main event.

Heat 1 (8 Laps - Top 5 finishers transfer to the A-feature)
1. 3J-Kevin Lee[1] ; 2. 11X-Brandon Martin[3] ; 3. 5R-Byron Reed[5] ; 4. 2+-Brian Smith[2] ; 5. 53-Phil Gressman[6] ; 6. 97S-Aaron Shaffer[7] ; 7. 27-Scott Euler[8] ; 8. 312-Mike Linder[4]

The lack of a good qualifying run had Kevin starting in the 15th spot. At the drop of the green Kevin showed that he was determined and had a fast enough car to get to the front. When the only caution flag of the race waved on lap 3, Kevin had all ready moved into the 9th position. When the green flag came back out Kevin continued his charge towards the front and by lap 15 he had moved into the 3rd position. At the halfway point Kevin ran 3rd nipping at the heels of second place Dean Jacobs who was chasing after race leader Byron Reed. Lapped traffic played a factor and Kevin was held up for a few laps while Jacobs and Reed pulled away a bit. Kevin raced hard with Bryan Sebetto for the 3rd position, Kevin using the bottom groove and Sebetto the topside. Sebetto eventually got by and secured the 3rd spot. Kevin would bring the A.S.E. LLC, Ace Archery, Green Springs Energy #3J home to a 4th place finish in the 30 lap event.

A-Main (30 Laps)
1. 5R-Byron Reed[3]; 2. 97-Dean Jacobs[4]; 3. 16-Bryan Sebetto[2]; 4. 3J-Kevin Lee[15]; 5. W20-Greg Wilson[14]; 6. 11X-Brandon Martin[6]; 7. O9-Craig Mintz[7]; 8. 9Z-Duane Zablocki[17]; 9. 312-Mike Linder[9]; 10. 45L-Brian Lay[13]; 11. 53-Phil Gressman[5]; 12. 60-Jody Keegan[1]; 13. 12-Jarred Ridge[10]; 14. 14H-Todd Heller[16]; 15. O-Chris Andrews[11]; 16. 51-Brad Bowman[8]; 17. 2+-Brian Smith[12]; 18. 91X-Bob Lime[18]; 19. 51C-Roger Campbell[19]; 20. 10-Brad Haudenschild

A good night for Kevin and the team. The team hopes to carry the positive momentum into All Star competition during Ohio Sprint Speedweek which kicks off next Friday 6-17-11 at Attica Raceway Park and continues for 8 races in 9 nights. 2011 T-shirts will be available starting at the Speedweek opener at Attica this Friday. Be sure and stop by the 3J pit and say hello. See you at the track this weekend.

The 3J team would like to thank all of our marketing partners for the 2011 season.  JD Automotive, Papa Jimmies BBQ & Pizza, Green Springs Energy, A.S.E. Much better weekend for Kevin Lee and the 3J team

Green Springs, OH: The pair of FAST Series events this past weekend produced some much needed good results and maybe more importantly, some good luck that the team hopes will stay around for awhile as the last few weeks have been dismal to say the least.

At Attica Raceway Park on Friday (6-3-11) Kevin started 5th in his heat race and earned a 4th place finish garnering one of the redraw positions for the nights A-Main event. With a shot at starting anywhere from 1st through 12th via the redraw, Kevin ended up with the 11. Kevin ran a very good feature race from his 11th starting position. Several untimely caution and red flags cost Kevin a few hard fought positions. At the checkers Kevin brought the JD Automotive, Green Springs Energy #3J home in the 8th spot.

In action at Fremont Speedway on Saturday (6-4-11) the team battled through some issues with the car to qualify 16th of the 29 car field. The 16th quick time would place Kevin on the pole of the first heat race. After the first 2 attempts were negated by caution flags, Kevin would get a good start and race side by side with Greg Wilson for the first 2 laps, Kevin running the low line and Wilson up top. On the 3rd lap Kevin began to pull away and went on to lead all 8 laps and take the checkers locking him into the nights A-Main. Rolling off 16th in the A-Main Kevin continued to use the bottom of the track and showed patience as he began to pick off positions as he worked his way through the field. He battled with Wilson again for a few laps and then waged a torrid battle with Brad Haudenschild for much of the race. At the finish Kevin brought his A.S.E. LLC, Leafy Oaks Campground, Ace Archery backed #3J to the checkers in 7th place.

A much needed decent weekend for the team. The team now prepares for another pair of FAST Series races this weekend (6-10/11-11) at Attica and Fremont. 2011 Kevin Lee T-Shirts should be here before the start of Ohio Sprint Speedweek. Be sure and stop by the 3J pit and say hello. See you at the track this weekend.

Green Springs, OH:  Mother nature sure isn't liking the outdoor sports this year so far. Tonight at Fremont Kevin went out 29th of 31 cars to take his 2 laps on the clock. Both laps identical times of 12.602 which ended up 13th quick. Kevin started 3rd in heat one and finished 3rd transferring to the A-main. Then the rains came and canceled the remainder of the program.

The Dash, B-Main and A-Main for tonight's race will be ran preceding tomorrows full All Star program. Monday, May 30th is the scheduled rain date for the Sunday show.

Kevin will start no worse than 13th in the make up feature. Starting spot will be determined after the B-main is completed. Hope to see you at the track!

Attica WoO & Mercer AllStar Results

By: Kurt Humbert

3J Motorsports PR

5-23-11

Contact: pr@3jmotorsports.com

Green Springs, OH: Kevin Lee and the 3J team endured a sub-par weekend that started on a sour note in WoO Competition at Attica Raceway Park and culminated with a crashed race car at Mercer Raceway Park in western PA.

The weekend started off on a good note as Kevin recorded a lap of 12.887 in World of Outlaw competition at Attica Raceway Park on Friday night. After being on the bubble to make the heat inversion for the last 15 cars or so in qualifying the time held up for 20th quick locking Kevin into a pole starting spot in the 5th and final heat race.

A stellar field and perhaps the car being a tick off in the heat found Kevin bringing the JD Auto # 3J home to a 6th place finish, missing a transfer to the A-main by 2 spots. In the B-Main Kevin rolled off 6th and slid back to an 11th place finish at the checkers. A total disappointment and the first A-main that Kevin missed thus far in the rain shortened season.

Saturday found the 3J team at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, PA for All Star Circuit of Champion competition. The bad Karma followed the team all the way to PA as a couple of issues with the car prevented Kevin from getting any hot laps. With the problems remedied, Kevin went out for his one lap on the clocks and ended up 37th quick of the 46 cars on hand with a time of 14.474. The poor time trial lead to a tenth place start in the first heat race. That is exactly where Kevin finished the 10 lap heat, in tenth place.

Relegated to the B-main for the second straight night the team went to work making wholesale changes to the Papa Jimmies backed sprinter. Kevin rolled off 17th in the B-main and got off to a good start and was moving towards the front when disaster struck just 2 laps into the 12 lapper. Kevin was battling around the 12th position when an incident between 2 other cars happened right in front of the charging 3J machine. Kevin attempted to avoid the mishap and caught his right rear tire on another cars left rear and rolled the Green Springs Energy #3j over on the back stretch. Kevin emerged unscathed but the same couldn't be said for the car. Kevin was scored 18th in the final B-main run down.

Fremont-FAST Opener a rough night for Kevin Lee and the 3J Team

(Green Springs, OH) Fremont Speedway 4-23-2011:  Kevin Lee and the 3J team were hoping to pick up where they left off last season and build on the 2 top ten finishes they had to end the season at Fremont in All Star competition a year ago. That however was not to be. Mother nature made it a real guessing game as to what the track surface would be like throughout the evening.

Kevin ran a much different line than usual during his qualifying lap and his time of 14.310 ended up 17th quick in the 40 car field. Kevin started 2nd in heat number one and the set-up changes after qualifying proved to be detrimental as Kevin and his Papa Jimmies backed 3J slid all the way back to a 6th place finish, missing a transfer position to the nights A-main by one spot.

The crew went back to work and made a host of changes in preparation for the B-Main. Kevin rolled off 3rd of 21 cars to start the B-main. After a lap one Flip by Pole sitter, Danny Holtgraver, Kevin would line up outside front row for the complete restart alongside new pole sitter Dustin Dagget. Kevin and Dagget would pull away from the field on each restart in the caution filled 12 lapper. With 2 laps to go Kevin made the pass on Dagget coming out of turn four, but all was for naught as the caution flag once again waved. Kevin brought the JD Automotive, Green Springs Energy machine home to a 2nd place finish garnering one of the last four transfers to the A-main.

In the A-Main Kevin would start 16th, for the 3rd feature in a row, of the 24 car starting field. On a rough and challenging track, Kevin slid back a spot or two at the beginning of the race then found his groove and began working his way back forward. After battling with Phil Gressman for 12th place for a few laps disaster struck on lap 15 when something broke and Kevin couldn't steer his machine coming out of turn four. The car turned right and shot straight towards the concrete front stretch wall. Kevin was able to get the car back sideways by braking and struck the wall hard with the right side of the car, the car then bounced off the wall and the left side wheels dug into the track and tipped over on its left side. Kevin emerged ok but in need of something to help out a bad headache. Kevin was scored with a 19th place finish in the events final results. He also earned the FAST Series, Hepfner Racing Products Tough Luck Award.

For an incident that looked fairly tame, the car suffered severe damage. The team has all ready begun preparations to get the 3J machine ready for next weekends FAST Series action at Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway.

(Green Springs, OH) Attica Raceway Park 4-9-2011:  Kevin Lee and the 3J Motorsports team picked up where they left off last weekend at Attica Raceway Park with a strong showing for the second week in a row. The All Star Circuit of Champions were scheduled to compete at Attica Raceway Park on Friday and Saturday, but mother nature won the contest on Friday so the team was left to look forward to Saturday as the weekends lone event. The pit area was full of top caliber teams including the top contenders from the ASCoC, several World of Outlaw teams, the always strong Attica regular competitors, as well as many other teams from around Ohio and PA.

The night started off with Kevin being the 38th car to take his one lap qualifying run. Kevin turned a lap of 12.541 placing the JD Automotive, Papa Jimmies BBQ & Pizza backed sprinter 17th quick in the 48 car field. Kevin's qualifying time placed him in heat one, starting from the 2nd position. Kevin ran a very good heat race, that was slowed only once by a red flag early in the ten lapper, and brought his Green Springs Energy 3J sprinter home to a 3rd place finish earning him a starting spot in the 40 lap main event.

Kear’s Speed Shop heat one finish: (10 Laps - Top 5 finishers transfer to the A-feature) 1. 5W-Lucus Wolfe[4] ; 2. 49-Brad Sweet[1] ; 3. 3J-Kevin Lee[2] ; 4. 2-Dale Blaney[5] ; 5. 53-Phil Gressman[3] ; 6. 97-Dean Jacobs[6] ; 7. 11D-Bryce Dickson[8] ; 8. 91X-Aaron Middaugh[12] ; 9. 93-Sheldon Haudenschild[9] ; 10. 9Z-Duane Zablocki[11] ; 11. 45-Rob Chaney[7] ; 12. 1Z-Jessica Zemken[10]

Once the Dash, C & B mains had been completed the starting field was set and Kevin would find himself starting the A-Main from the 16th spot for the second week in a row. In the nights headline event Kevin had his BSE Welding & Fabricating, Leafy Oaks sponsored  Maxim dialed in and ready to make a charge forward. Kevin gradually began picking off cars and advancing his position through the field.  The 40 lap race was slowed a few times within the first 6 laps, but then would go green until lap 31 when the red flag came out for a flip by Byron Reed who was battling trying to hold off Dale Blaney while leading when he jumped the cushion in turn two. Kevin would restart from the 9th spot with 9 laps remaining and he took the 8th spot from Dean Jacobs a few laps later. The race stayed green the rest of the way to the checkers with Kevin holding off several late challenges by Greg Wilson to hold onto an 8th place finish.

Kevin Lee earns first top 10 finish of the 2011 season at Attica Raceway Park

(Green Springs, OH) Attica Raceway Park 4-1-2011:  Kevin Lee and the 3J Motorsports have been anxiously awaiting the start of the 2011 race season. Mother nature finally gave racers and fans alike a small window of opportunity to do just that at Attica Raceway Park on Friday night. The temps were low and the winds were brisk, but the action on the track made everything seem a tad warmer.

The night started off with Kevin slated to start 4th in heat number 3. Heat race number 3 looked to be a good measuring stick as to how the team had prepared the 3J machine for action as it was a heat loaded with veteran drivers and top caliber cars. Kevin got off to a good start at the drop of the green until contact with the 7k machine in turn 2 caused Kevin to get out of shape with the result being the loss of several positions by the time he got the car straightened out. Kevin settled in and and had a decent run but couldn't overcome the early loss of track position and settled for a 7th place finish. The poor heat race finish would relegate Kevin to a 6th place start in the B-main.

Jason (Car owner and crew chief) went to work and the crew made a host of changes to the car before the B-main. The changes proved to be spot on as Kevin would get a great start at the drop of the green flag for the B-main. Kevin quickly moved through the field and took the lead from Duane Zablocki near the halfway point of the 10 lap event. Kevin would pull away and take the checkers a half lap ahead of Zablocki. Travis Philo, Mitch Harble and Todd King would round out the top 5 taking the final 5 starting positions in the nights main event.

In the A-main Kevin started 16th. Kevin ran a very smooth race and gradually picked his way through traffic on the heels of Bryan Sebetto. The race was slowed only once for a caution on lap 21 when Cole Duncan (22) slid off the top of turn 1. This bunched the field back up and sent all of the lapped machines to the tail placing the 9X of Brandon Martin on Kevins rear bumper for the restart. Lee and Martin had a spirited battle for the remaining 9 laps with Kevin taking charge and securing the 10th spot with a lap to go.

The team was fairly happy with the opening nights results, but eager for the next chance to improve on their performance. All but one of the cars that finished ahead of Kevin tonight have at least one win at the northern Ohio facility.

The 3J Motorsports team looks forward to next weekends All Star Circuit of Champions double header at Attica Raceway Park and looks forward to seeing you fans at the track.
