Ivy wins 6th 410 sprint
feature; Hill takes first checkered; Sabo claims third win in trucks
By
Brian Liskai
FREMONT, Ohio (July 20) - John Ivy passed Mike Linder with a dozen laps
remaining and went on to score his sixth 410 feature win of the year at
Fremont Speedway on Crown Battery Night.
"I
didn't know if we could get up there starting eighth. Thank God for the
yellow flags. The guys had the car perfect for the middle of the track and
that helped on the restarts," said Ivy.
At the
drop of the green for the 30-lap main, Fremont's Mike Linder jumped
into the lead and led until lap 13 when Ivy used the middle of the track to
sling-shot around Linder. Linder held on to second at the checkered, with
Elmore's Alvin Roepke taking third; Fremont's David Harrison fourth and Todd
Heller coming from 12th to finish in the top five.
Green
Springs' Josh Hill led all 25 laps in the 305 sprint main to claim his
first ever feature win. Bucyrus' Brock Mayes was second followed by
Fostoria's Scott Kraylek; Castalia's Bryan Scott; and Gibsonburg's Craig
Mintz.
"This
is awesome...I never would have dreamed of winning a feature here,"
said Hill. "Jim Deel (who was killed racing at Fremont a year ago) was
watching over us tonight...this one is for Jimmy."
Fremont's Steve Sabo scored his third feature win of the season in the dirt
truck division over John Rhoads of Fremont; Tiffin's Paul Diamond;
Republic's Dave Gibbs; and Ron Kepling.
A
moment of silence was held prior to the racing in memory of former sprint
driver Dick Liskai who passed away Friday evening after a lengthy battle
against cancer. Liskai's children and brothers were in attendance at the
races.
Fremont
Speedway will be back in action Saturday, July 27, with Schiets
Hodda, Yamaha, Suzuki Night with the 410 sprints, 305 sprints and dirt
trucks in action.
