Fremont 50 Goes to Phil
Gressman

FREMONT, Ohio (August
10th)-The second annual Fremont
50 took place Saturday night August 10th at “The Track
That Action Built” Fremont Speedway. Forty one 410
sprint cars signed into the pits while the 305s had 33
sprints and the dirt trucks had 39 signed in.
Butch Schroeder picked up fast time with a time of
12.60. A special dash put on by the Easter Seals of
Sandusky Co. and Steinle Olds went to John Ivy. The
heats went to Troy Vaccaro, Alvin Roepke, Brian Smith,
and Bobby Clark. The 8 lap C-Main went to Todd Kane,
as the B-Main went to the 22D of Rodney Duncan.
On the front row of the 50-lap A-Main event for the
410 sprint cars was the 11M of Brandon Martin and on
the outside front row was Shawn Chaney in the 27c.
When the green flag flew, Martin was out front in a
flash. All Star regular, Kelly Kinser, was right on
his tail with 5 laps in the book. On the 7th lap,
Kinser got around the youngster Brandon Martin. While
Kinser started to check out, the race was on between
the professor, Mark Keegan, and the student, Brandon
Martin. A close battle ensued between the two drivers
before Keegan finally got him in turn 1. Kelly Kinser
got into heavy lapped traffic and that let the 92K of
Mark Keegan close in on his bumper. When a yellow flag
came out for the 9x of Butch Schroeder, the field
bunched up, with Kinser in the lead and Keegan and
Gressman in tow. When the green came back out Keegan
went up to the top, Kinser went low, and Gressman went
in between them. Three wide down the backstretch they
went then Gressman was finally able to move around the
two. Gressman wasn’t challenged the rest of the way to
take home the $5,000 prize. Second was Mark Keegan,
third went to Kelly Kinser, fourth was Alvin Roepke,
fifth was Rodney Duncan, sixth was Rob Chaney, seventh
was Jimmy Hawley, eighth was John Ivy, ninth was Byron
Reed, and rounding out the top ten was Brandon Martin.
In the 305 Econo Sprint car A-Main event, Bob Dawson
jumped out into the early lead but not far behind was
the 37z of Bryan Scott. While Dawson put up a heck of
a fight he couldn’t hold off the hard charging Scott
as he went on to take the win. Second was Bill
Kraylek, third was Jamie Miller, fourth was Josh Hill,
fifth was Brock Mayes, sixth was Craig Mintz, seventh
was Bob Dawson, eighth was Roger Shammo, ninth was Joe
Keegan, and rounding out the top ten was Mark Lang.
In the exciting dirt truck feature event, Danny
Roepke found himself in victory lane followed by Brian
Arnold, third was Mike Porter, fourth was Steve Sabo,
fifth was John Rhodes, sixth was Bobby Sears, seventh
was Jay Boyd, eighth was Matt Lucius, ninth was Jeff
Dougherty, and rounding out the top ten was Ernie
Haynes.
