Weaver dominates
Fremont's 305 Invite
Sabo wins
fourth in trucks
By Brian Liskai
FREMONT, Ohio (Sept. 5, 2004) - Fremont's Paul Weaver
dominated the biggest
race of the year for the 305 sprints at Fremont Speedway Sunday, lapping up
to the eighth place car on route to scoring the win in the Snyder's Floor
Covering 305 Sprint Invitational. Weaver earned $2,500 for the win, his
fifth of the season at "The Track That Action Built."
Daniel Smith jumped into the lead at the drop of the green,
with Scott
Kraylek right on his bumper and Weaver into third. Kraylek spun in turn two
on lap two while battling for the lead to bring out the first caution of the
30-lap affair. That put Weaver on the bumper of Smith on the restart and he
promptly drove around him exiting turn two. Smith brought out the second
caution as he looped it out in turn three on lap two. The running order was
Weaver, Andy Shammo, Brian Smith and Jamie Miller. The man on the move was
Columbus' Scott Miller, as he had moved from 21st to 10th in just two laps.
Weaver and Shammo pulled away from the pack and they hit
lapped traffic by
lap 9. The third caution flew on lap 16 for Brian Smith, the track's point
leader, as he stopped on the front stretch with a collapsed front end.
Weaver had three lapped cars between himself and Shammo, with Jamie Miller
up to third, Dustin Keegan fourth, Bryan Sebetto fifth and Scott Miller up
to sixth. On the restart, Sebetto went off the top of turn three, bringing
out another caution. With 11 laps to go, Weaver had lapped up to 10th place.
The caution flew for the final time on lap 27 for Dustin Keegan who slowed
on the track. Weaver easily pulled away the final three laps to score the
win over Andy Shammo, Roger Shammo, Scott Miller and Bryan Sebetto.
"The car was fantastic. We made some minor adjustments from
the heat and it
was just a rocket ship," said Weaver beside his Strawberry Hill Farm Market,
Ace Engines #1w. "I have to thank Dennis Levell and Dee Genzman for giving
me a great motor."
Weaver's win was his 10th career victory at Fremont.
Besides the rich payoff thanks to Snyder's Floor Covering,
KS Sales and
Service and Progress Plastic Products, the top three earned gift
certificates from ProShock. Scott Miller also earned a $300 bonus from KOT
Trucking as the Don Eckhardt Hard Charger, passing the most cars in the
A-Main. Brian Smith earned a $100 bonus from the Last Lap Radio Show
(99.1FM) for setting quick time from among the 46 qualifiers.
Heat wins went to Matt Merrill, Matt Ferrell, Bryan Sebetto
and Bob Dawson.
Ryan Lowe scored the victory in the Fremont Floor Covering Dash, with Mark
Lang taking the checkered in the Burns Iron & Metal Dash; Sebetto winning
the Gressman Power Sports Dash; and Roger Shammo taking the victory in the
EZ Works.net Dash. The four winners of those dashes competed in the Computer
Man Super Dash for $110, with Sebetto taking the win. Winning the Progress
Plastic Products B-mains were Dustin Keegan and Ryan Lowe.
Fremont's Steve Sabo scored his fourth feature win of the
season and added
to his point lead in the Coors Light Dirt Truck Division. Sabo inherited the
lead when leader Danny Roepke and second place runner Art Howey Jr. got
together and both spinning out. Sabo cruised to the win over an impressive
Steve Endicott, Bobby Davis, Brian Arnold and Cory Ward. It was Sabo's 21st
career feature win at Fremont, moving him to a tie for 18th on the all-time
win list.
Fremont Speedway will play host to the final 410 sprint
show of the season
at the track on Saturday, Sept. 11 as the All Star Circuit of Champions come
to town for a $10,000 to win, 50 lap feature sponsored by the Baumann Auto
Group. The 305 sprints are also on the racing card.
