Linder wins 3rd at Fremont
Weaver scores 305 victory; McGrath
wins first career truck main
By Brian Liskai
FREMONT, Ohio (July 23, 2005) - Mike Linder's car was so good in the 410
sprint feature at Fremont Speedway he got a little complacent. But a slide job
in turns one and two with a handful of laps remaining woke him up and he went on
to pick up his third feature win of the season on Schiets Motors Honda, Yamaha,
Suzuki Night.
"Byron probably doesn't want to hear this, but he woke me up. I was driving
around there and got a little lazy in the corners. When he slid by me, I woke up
and moved back up on the cushion and we got fast again," said Linder beside his
Beaverdam Contracting sprinter. "It helps to start up front here...the
competition is so tough. The 16 car (Lee Jacobs) was fast...I don't know if we
could have beat him, but something broke and here we are."
After a red flag for a Brian Smith tip-over on the initial start, Jacobs powered
to the early lead in the 410 main. Jacobs tagged the front stretch wall on lap
four, causing front end damage and ending his night. Linder cruised into the
lead from his outside front row starting spot over Reed, Bobby Clark and Mark
Keegan. The yellow flew on lap nine for Bryan Sebetto with the running order
Linder, Reed, Clark, Craig Mintz and Keegan. Action was halted on lap 11 for a
Todd Heller tip over. On the restart, Linder set sail around the outside rip.
Linder got caught up in lapped traffic by lap 18, allowing Reed to close. Linder
and Reed rain side by side for a few laps until Reed's classic slide job going
into turn one on lap 24. Linder turned down and regained the lead exiting turn
two and went on to the win which put him back into the season long point lead.
Reed came home second to hand his son Sammy a nice fourth birthday present, with
Clark finishing thired, Mintz fourth and Alvin Roepke rounding out the top five.
Fremont's Paul Weaver's patience paid off in the 305 sprint feature. He hounded
early leader Ryan Lowe until Lowe slipped up in turn two on lap 18, and Weaver
drove low and on to the win, his second of the 2005 at "The Track That Action
Built."
Lowe jumped into the lead at the drop of the green and used the middle groove to
hold off first Jeremy Durst, and then Weaver, who drove in Lowe's tire tracks
from lap 4 until taking the lead on lap 18 of the 25-lap affair.
Weaver took the win over Durst, Lowe, Scott Kraylek and Bill Kraylek.
"I had to be patient... he (Lowe) was slowest in my fastest part of the race
track, getting off the turns," said Weaver beside his Weaver-Koonce
Construction, Ace Engines sponsored sprinter. "I have to thank Dee Genzman...he
owns this whole thing. We got this old car from Byron Reed a couple of weeks ago
after we destroyed our other car and it's been fast."
Clyde's Jim McGrath scored his first career feature win at Fremont Speedway in
the Coors Light Dirt Trucks over Bobby Davis, Brian Arnold, Dwight Waltermeier
and Cory Ward.
"I have to thank Mark Keegan. He helped us figure out this truck and we're
really fast on the high side," said McGrath beside his B&K Auto Services
sponsored truck. "
Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, July 30 for Pepsi Presents the
Chuck Kear Memorial-Fremont 50. The 410 sprints will run a 50-lap feature for
$5,000 to win. The 305 sprints will be split into two complete fields by odds
and evens in the point standings, with all 305s running an A-main. All feature
event cars in both divisions will also share in over $25,000 in manufacturer's
parts.
