Kinser takes 50-lapper at Fremont; Ward,
Valenti share truck wins; Heuerman takes 1st victory

FREMONT, Ohio (Saturday, June 2, 2007) - In a
50-lap race, experience plays
heavily in the outcome...so does a little luck!

Challenge at Fremont
Speedway on Brubaker Auction Night.
The Fremont Fence & Guardrail Dirt Trucks were
split into two complete
fields - odds and evens in the point standings -
for two seperate A-mains,
with Sandusky's Cory Ward and Risingson's Shawn
Valenti both picking up
their second wins of the season at "The Track That
Action Built."
Leipsic, Ohio's Todd Heuerman made a great move
to take the lead with just
four laps remaining to score his first career
feature win in the Fremont
Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints.
For Kinser, the checkered flag couldn't come
soon enough, as the engine in
his Kinser Timber/Crone Lumber #4k was sputtering.
"I almost pulled in...it was running on only six
or seven cylinders. But we
were leading and no one was really challenging me
so I thought what the
heck, stay out until it quits...and it hung in
there," said Kinser from the
Engine Pro Victory Lane about his fifth career
Fremont win. "I normally
would move the wing back as the fuel load burned
off, but I couldn't or I'd
stall the motor. I just cruised around the bottom
and hoped it would hang
on. You have to be patient in these long
races...you win these in the last
10 laps."
Heuerman executed a great slide job on race-long
leader Mark Whaley entering
turn one as they compleed lap 21 of the 25-lap
feature to grab the top spot
and cruise away for his first win.
"I have to thank my brother...he owns half of
this and we tore this thing up
bad a few weeks ago and Mark Keegan fixed the frame
and here we are," said
Heuerman beside his Dales Concrete/Same Gerdeman
Construction sponsored #18.
"Finally...we've been at this for three years and I
never thought this would
come."
Cory Ward dedicated his truck feature win - the
third of his career at
Fremont - to his late grandma.
"I think we finally found what this truck needs.
I have to thank my parents
and grandparents and all my family for all they do
so that I can race," said
Ward beside his Precision Body and Frame/T.J.
Hosang Construction backed
#18w.
Valenti held off a hard-charging Bob Dible to
score his third career victory
at Fremont.
"Bob raced me hard and clean...you can't ask for
more than that. I ran the
bottom...normally I don't like that, I like the
high side, but I saw there
was moisture down there and it stuck. I have to
thank Tim Kern for setting
this thing up and my sponsors, Dymond Motorsports
and Kern Tool," said
Valenti from the Engine Pro Victory Lane.
Also, Fremont's Bobby Clark took home an extra
$300 from KOT Trucking/Crown
Battery after scoring the win in the Don Eckart
Memorial Australian Pursuit.
At the start of the 50-lapper for the Fort Ball
Pizza Palace 410 Sprints,
Kinser used his familiar bottom groove to take the
initial lead. However,
Paul Weaver shot around him on lap 3 and would lead
until lap 12 when Kinser
would sneak back around on the bottom. Kinser and
Weaver would race side by
side until Weaver slid off the high side of turn
two and made hard contact
with the soft walls to bring the caution out on lap
17.
The running order was Kinser, Clark, Byron Reed,
Lee Jacobs, 14th place
starter Caleb Griffith and Mark Keegan. All eyes
were on John Ivy as he made
steady progress forward from his 20th starting spot
- running 9th.
Kinser would pull away on the restart with the
action heating up behind him
between Clark, Reed, Jacobs, Keegan, Griffith,
Brock Mayes and Ivy. Jacobs
would move into second on lap 30, with Clark,
Griffith and Reed following.
Kinser hit lapped traffic for the first time on lap
36. Griffith would slide
under Jacobs for second and put pressure on Kinser.
However, the cagey
veteran would steadily pick his way around the
lapped cars to maintain his
lead.
With five laps remaining, Griffith would try to
mount one last charge, but
had trouble with lapped traffic and had to settle
for second. Jacobs would
finish third, with Reed and Clark rounding out the
top five.
"We lost the brakes early and it was a handful,"
said Griffith beside his
Construction Equipment and Supply/Barns Nursery
sponsored #12. "I screwed up
when I moved the wing back and on that last restart
the car wheelied...I was
able to move it back ahead, but by then Kelly had
checked out."
"That was a blast!" exclaimed Jacobs on his
third place run aboard the Mapus
Tool & Machine sponsored #16. "The lapped cars
didn't hold their lines and
that made it hard to catch the leaders. I have to
thank Mikie, Sonny, Scott,
Tommy, Rawley, Rodney and Sonny and Sharon
Burmeister for working so hard on
this car."
In the 25-lap feature for the 305 sprints,
pole-sitter Mark Whaley would
grab the early lead with Coty Runion and Heuerman
challenging the next 16
laps. The action would halt on lap 18 for a
tip-over by Scott Mominee (he
was uninjured), with the running order Whaley,
Heuerman, Runion, Bobby
Foster and Andy Shammo.
When the green flew again, Heuerman immediately
began pressuring Whaley,
driving to his outside. With five laps remaining,
Heuerman exited turn four
high and swept under Whaley whose momentum had
taken him up the racetrack.
Heuerman would slide under Whaley entering turn one
and would slide up in
front for the lead. He would then cruise to the
victory with Whaley, Shammo,
Foster and Runion rounding out the top five.
In the first truck feature, Paul Brown Jr. would
grab the initial lead with
Chuck Roelle racing him hard until he took the top
spot on lap 6, bringing
Cory Ward into second with him. Ward and Roelle
would race side by side for
the lead with Ward gaining the advantage on lap 8.
Meanwhile veteran Art
Ball would steadily climb from his 8th starting
spot to grab second at the
half-way mark of the 20-lap affair.
Ward and Ball would race nose to tail to the
checkered, with Eric DeVanna,
Mark Warnick and Jim McGrath rounding out the top
five.
In the second truck feature, Aaron Schatzinger
would take the lead at the
green with Dwight Waltermeier, Brad Mitten, Zak
Cramer and Valenti in tow.
Valenti would vault into second by lap 3 and would
race into the lead a lap
later. The action behind him was exciting as
Waltermeier, Schatzinger,
11th-starter Bob Dible and 10th-starter Brian
Arnold continuously swapping
positions.
Dible would move into second at the half-way
mark and would hound Valenti
the remaining 10 laps, but just couldn't get around
him Arnold, Schatzinger
and Waltermeier would round out the top five at the
checkers.
Fremont Speedway will be back in action
Saturday, June 9 for McDonald's
Night, featuring the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410
Sprints, the Fremont Fence &
Guardrail Dirt Trucks, along with the special
school bus races and the
ladies' truck powder puff event. Gates open at 4:30
p.m. with racing to get
underway at 7:30 p.m. There will also be 10 bikes
given away - thanks to the
Tackle Box II - to kids 10 years of age and under.
