Sebetto Gets First 410 Win at Attica;
Weaver Nabs Third 305 Victory; Schlenk Gets Fourth Late Model Victory

(Attica, OH) To say 2009
hasn't been kind to Fremont, Ohio's Bryan Sebetto is a bit of an
understatement. The 26-year-old has had terrible luck. But that all
turned around for him at Attica Raceway Park Friday, as he scored his
first career 410 sprint victory, holding off Chad Kemenah on several
restarts.
"We've had the worst season ever...since I was 12 years old racing
go-karts I've never had as bad of year as I've had this year and as bad
of luck. It seemed we could get nothing to fall our way, but everything
fell into place tonight. These guys...Mikey, Rollie and Tommy, I can't
thank these guys and mom and pop Burmeister enough. Every single night
Mikey works his butt off on this race car...this is his life," said
Sebetto beside his Steve Mapus Productive Tools, R&R Auto Wrecking,
Schiets Motorsports, Kistler Racing Products backed #16. "I have to
thank Kistler Engines...we hurt a motor here last week and they rushed
and got it done for us. And All-Pro Cylinder Heads...I have them on my
motor," added Sebetto about Bob and Susie Williams' company, the track's
race night sponsor.
"I didn't want to see any of those yellows
and reds except for the first one that gave me a clear track. I tried
doing the same thing every time on the restart. I pulled off a tear-off
every time, I had the fuel turned to the right space, I pulled my helmet
down at the same time...I'm very superstitious," added Sebetto of his
Kistler Racing Products Fremont Attica Sprint Title Championship Series
victory. "I didn't think I was going to hold off Chad on that last
restart. He came sliding up on me, but he gave me enough room to just
get around there...it feels good to beat someone like Chad Kemenah."
Fremont's Paul Weaver escaped unscathed
after he and race leader D.J. Foos touched on lap 12 of the 305 sprint
feature, sending Foos to the pits. Weaver would go on to record his
third win of the season at Attica,and his fifth overall of the season
(he has two wins at Fremont Speedway). The win moves Weaver into second
on Attica's all-time win list for the 305 sprints with 22, just three
behind Mike Linder.
"I held back on him (Foos) like two laps before and finally thought I
had a good run. We just barely touched and his front end is a lot more
fragile than the back of my car," said Weaver beside his Genzman
Enterprises, Ludwig Propane, M&L Excavating backed #1w.
"I like thank Dee Genzman...if it weren't for him I wouldn't be out
here. The magical set-up by my wife again got me here," added Weaver of
his win that vaulted him into the Fremont Fence 305 Sprints point lead
by one point.
Jackson, Michigan's Rusty Schlenk is kicking himself for not showing up
last week at Attica to run against the World of Outlaw Late Models. He
thought the show would not award those valuable UMP points - it did, but
he was racing in Illinois. He made up for it with his fourth win of the
season in the Fultz Fabrications and Speed Shop UMP Late Models Friday.
"We were trying to get UMP points...I found out at the last minute but
we were in the middle of Illinois racing. It worked out alright for
us...we ended up getting a third place out there so it was a good point
night," said Schlenk beside his Complete Truck Repair, Main & Company,
Micro Armor Lubricants backed late model.
"I don't know what's going on with this race car, but about a month ago
it just took off. I have to give a big hand to my guys, Dusty and Roger
who came out and helped out," said Schlenk. "Everyone keeps asking me
what we did to this car...I don't have a clue. All I know is we're not
touching it."
F.A.S.T. 410 Sprints - Bryan Sebetto
Sebetto used his traditional rim-riding line
to jump into the lead at the drop of the green for the 410 sprint
feature with Brandon Martin, Brock Mayes, Kemenah and
Kevin Lee in tow. Kemenah would move
into third on lap two and began pressuring Martin for second. Meanwhile,
Sebetto was pulling away and just as he was about to hit lapped traffic
on the seventh circuit, the yellow would fly. With a clear track,
Sebetto once again pulled away while Martin and Kemenah battled
side-by-side for second with Mayes in fourth and Jody Keegan moving into
fifth. The car on the move was Chris Andrews who also used the high line
to go from his 10th starting spot fifth by lap 9.
On lap 13, Martin and Kemenah would get together exiting turn four with
Martin flying into the catch fence, ending his night. Sebetto could not
pull away as easily on the restart as Kemenah raced under him in turns
one and two challenging for the lead, while Mayes and Andrews raced hard
for third and a tremendous battle for the fifth spot between Mark
Keegan, Lee, Byron Reed and Fremont

With Sebetto trying to hold off Kemenah, another caution would fly on
lap 17. Again on the restart Kemenah would try to drive under Sebetto in
turns one and two as they raced side-by-side down the backstretch.
Sebetto was much better in turns three and four and maintained his lead
while Andrews flew around Mayes into the third spot.
Travis Philo and Cap Henry would get together in turn four on lap 20,
with Henry on his side, bringing a halt to the action. On the ensuing
restart, Kemenah tried to make his move with a slide job in turns one
and two, but Sebetto had just enough room to slide by on the outside and
maintain his lead. Kemenah would race right on his bumper right to the
checkered. Andrews would come home third with Mayes and 17th place
starter Phil Gressman rounding out the top five.
305 Sprints - Paul Weaver
In the 305 sprint feature, D.J. Foos would
grab the lead from his pole starting spot with Jimmy Colvin, Bobby
Clark, Junior Felver and Weaver right on his bumper. Foos was able to
put a little daylight between himself and the tremendous battle for
second between Colvin and Clark, but that would end on lap six when
Clark slid off the backstretch.
A spat of cautions would continue to slow the action throughout the
feature...four of them between laps six and 11. However, Weaver used the
ensuing restarts each time to his advantage, as he got around Colvin for
second on lap eight and began hunting down Foos. Following a restart on
lap 11, Foos and Weaver raced side-by-side until the two made contact
exiting turn four on lap 12, ending Foos' night.
Weaver was able to pull away from the field while Colvin and Stuart
Brubaker battled for second with Josh Muntz and 15th place starter John
Ivy racing hard for fourth. Weaver's lead was wiped out by a caution on
lap 17, allowing Brubaker a shot at the win. Brubaker would begin
pressuring Weaver on the restart, but a caution on lap 20 followed by a
red on lap 21 slowed his advance. Weaver was able to pull away the last
four laps for the win, with Brubaker, Ivy, Todd Heuerman and Colvin
rounding out the top five.
UMP Late Models - Rusty Schlenk
Ken Hahn grabbed the early lead of the late
model main with Schlenk, Michael Stiltner, Wayne Maffett Jr. and Devin
Shields in tow. Following a lap two caution, Schlenk would drive around
Hahn into the lead, but Hahn continued to hound him while Maffett and
Stiltner raced side-by-side for third. The action would slow for a
caution on lap eight, with the running order Schlenk, Hahn, Maffett,
Stiltner and Schields.
When the green came back out, Schlenk was able to pull away slightly
while Hahn had his hands full with Maffett. A pair of cautions would
slow the pace between laps 13 and 16. Each time Schlenk would use the
high line to pull away. He was never seriously challenged the last nine
laps as he streaked under the checkered flag. Hahn, Maffett, Stiltner
and Ryan Missler would round out the top five.
Attica Raceway Park will be back in action for their final Friday night
of racing on Aug. 7. Following a break for the Attica Fair on Aug. 14,
racing will resume on Saturday nights the final three races of 2009.
